About Hamilton Cabinet Painting

One trade, done to a written scope. Every quote names the substrate, the primer, the topcoat and the number of coats before any door comes off.

A bare wood cabinet door being cleaned and prepared before any primer goes on.

Paint It Before Replacing It

A Cabinet Painting Company That Works To Written Scopes

Hamilton Cabinet Painting exists to do one thing properly, which is repainting and refinishing the cabinets already in a house. Insurance covers the work. It reaches kitchens, islands, vanities, pantries, laundry rooms and built-in units inside houses, century brick homes and condo units right across the city and its neighbouring towns.

Cabinet painting sits somewhere between painting and cabinetmaking, and it goes wrong when it is treated as ordinary painting. Doors are removable joinery that get handled thousands of times a year, so they need degreasing, the right primer for their substrate, thin sprayed coats and a real cure before anyone uses them. That is the standard every quote is written against.

Every Cabinet Painting Quote Names Its Product And Its Coat Count

A quote that just gives a total tells a homeowner nothing. Ours lists the door count, the drawer front count, the number of boxes, the substrate we found, the primer, the topcoat family, the sheen, the number of coats and anything excluded.

Interiors, crown moulding, glass-front doors, hardware supply, filling old holes and drilling new ones each appear as their own line. If the scope changes partway through, a new written line goes with it before the work happens. The whole set of cabinet painting services is laid out page by page so the terms in a quote are never a surprise.

We Say So When Cabinet Painting Is Not The Right Answer

Some kitchens should not be painted, and we would rather lose the job than take it. Thermofoil doors already lifting at the dishwasher, particleboard swollen by a leaking sink and boxes that have lost their structure are all outside what a coating can fix.

Pre-1980 painted cabinets get tested for lead before sanding, and no test result is assumed in advance. Good walnut, cherry and white oak often do better refinished than painted, which is set out on the cabinet refinishing page. Red oak with a 1990s stain usually looks better painted, and that is covered under oak cabinet painting.

How We Work

  • Written scopes

Every quote lists the door count, drawer fronts, boxes, substrate, primer, topcoat family, sheen, coats and exclusions. If the scope changes partway through, a new written line goes in before the work happens.

  • Sprayed in two places

Doors and drawer fronts are numbered and taken to a filtered booth. Boxes and face frames are sprayed in the house behind sealed plastic. That split gives a level finish and keeps the kitchen usable.

  • Honest about limits

Some kitchens should not be painted. Lifting thermofoil, swollen particleboard and good walnut or white oak that suits refinishing are all named in the quote, even when it means losing the job.
